Antagonist’s Monologue (By Cat Lalonde)
Teeth crunch, jaw snaps open. This is what happens when you have a foot to the back of your head.
It’s easier to creep up, like a snake,
like a shadow,
while the protagonist opens with a monologue to the audience.
And the audience we love so dearly will be in shock. They will sympathize, they will cry.
But they will go home,
and eventually forget my existence.
They will forget how you crept up,
like a snake,
like a disease,
and wrapped your talons so tightly around my throat.
Then turn to the audience,
say it’s not your fault,
and have the last word.
